The PAACLA Indonesia National Secretariat and Bappenas held national meetings with PAACLA members to consolidate PAACLA Indonesia's institution. In addition to discussing PAACLA Indonesia's guidelines as a reference for PAACLA activities in realizing its mission and vision, this meeting also presented preliminary results of the ILO Jakarta study on the situation of child labour in Indonesia, a baseline study conducted by SMERU and the results of the social mapping by KESEMPATAN project. The PAACLA National Secretariat also shared the progress of the PAACLA website development to get inputs from the meeting participants. The meeting was divided into 4 small meetings to accommodate PAACLA members from Ministries / Institutions, business sectors and civil society organizations (CSOs) and were held on 1,2,3 and 6 April 2020 with a total of 113 participants actively participating in the meeting. The meetings were held virtually as a form of support for government appeals related to social distancing and work from home to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The study presented by the ILO is the result of a study of child labour situation in Indonesia using Sakernas data for year 2011-2018 and it is an effort to update data on child labour in Indonesia. This ILO study found a decreasing number of child labourers. This finding is the answer to various efforts to tackle child labor that have been carried out by many parties so far. Meanwhile, the results of a baseline study by SMERU provided information on the situation of children involved in work before the project intervention was carried out in Central Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara and in Probolinggo District, East Java. Social mapping carried out in 8 (eight) target villages of KESEMPATAN project in East Java and 4 (four) villages in West Nusa Tenggara provided data on prospective beneficiaries of the project both children and adults.
PAACLA Indonesia has a joint agenda to accelerate the tackling of child labour in the agricultural sector. To achieve the national goal of Child Labor-Free Indonesia 2022 it requires synergistic steps in overcoming the problem. In order to strengthen PAACLA Indonesia, PAACLA Indonesia's structure and institution will be equipped with a steering committee and working groups that will work to strengthen PAACLA's action programs. At present PAACLA national secretariat is developing a website which is expected to be a data center and experiences on tackling child labour.
Salam kemitraan, terus berjuang untuk masa depan anak-anak Indonesia.
